First subway ride? Check.
First groceries purchased? Check.
First time getting on the wrong subway? Check.
All in all, today was amazing. I said goodbye to my parents and headed to my first “day of work”. Really we just copied some scripts and I met some new people. Even a few “fellow” Canadians!!!! The SM on this project is awesome. She’s so fun and so nice and she just graduated from Columbia with her Masters. So basically I’m fan-girling over her all day long. Aside from seeing Fault Line’s offices, I also got to go to the Equity Office in Time Square and Broadway cares on our errands today.
I managed to get to work in about 20 minutes and did everything right as far as subways go on my way TO work! *Side note: The subway station I exit to go to work is between MSG, Penn Station, Macy’s (yes, that one) and the Empire State building - AHHHH!* …the trip home though, I made the silly mistake of assuming the train I took downtown would take me back uptown. But that’s okay because I figured it out and found the correct line. I got off a few stops short of where I normally would to get home and saw a glimpse of Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History.
When I got home today there was miraculously an AC unit in my window. Don’t know how it got there but I am grateful for it! Except my parents bought me a fan last night…so that’s a little irritating but hey! No complaining - I have air conditioning!
I just have to mention the moment I had today on my way home from work too. I exited the subway at 81st and Central Park West, I looked to my left *Central Park*, I looked to my right *American Museum of Natural History*, and in front of me was a NYC dog walker, a food truck, and a bunch of kids walking home from school. HOLY. CRAP. I’m LIVING IN NEW YORK CITY. I’m so blessed. HUGE thank you to my mom and dad for helping me make this dream a reality and an even bigger thank you to my school mom and dad (Dave and Stephen, you guess which one is mom and which one is dad) for teaching me so much and helping me get here. I miss my family at Xavier Theatre SO MUCH and I can’t wait to be here with all of them soon.
I’m going to try to update this as much as I can (key word here being try). Just as I’m also going to attempt to actually use the gym in my apartment building (which is FULL of attractive young people, God bless). Please bare with my writing, it’ s really not very great so I’m just going to type like I am talking right to you. I’m also going to try to keep a running list of “things I’ve learned” so this should be interesting (you can find this on my tumblr page, www.smilechecks.tumblr.com). . I’m just so excited and so grateful for this opportunity that has been given to me. It’s not lost on me just how blessed I am.
In honor of this being my first blog post ever, I am going to close it out with this middle school era MTV reference. Go ahead, judge me, I’m judging myself.
