The Party

Holy mother of all weeks, Batman! This has been a busy one, and we're just getting started!
Last we left off, all of us at Fault Line were preparing for The Party, a fundraiser hosted by one of our long-time supporters on the Upper East Side. What. an. event. We had SO much fun. Plus, I got to meet a lot of new people and we got to show off a little piece of the show for everyone there.
This was the first time I had ever gone to the Upper East Side before, and from what I could gather, all signs were pointing towards taking a cross-town bus to the 6 train. This might sound ridiculous, but I have never taken a city bus before in my life, so I was super nervous. I also have this absurd paranoia that I'm going to get on the wrong train or miss my stop all the time so this also carried over to me being nervous about the bus. But let me tell ya, this bus ride was amazing. It was around 3:00 PM in the afternoon on Monday, so alllll of New York City's children were on their way home from school. There were two little ones sitting across from me, talking in great detail about who was ACTUALLY Chloe's best friend. The little girl said to the little boy (her brother), "Chloe can't be your best friend because she's a girl so she's my best friend". Not to be outdone, the little boy said to his sister "Actually, I love Chloe and I'm going to marry her so it doesn't matter". His sister was clearly shocked at this admission, because she then called him stupid ("MOM, SHE SAID THE S WORD") and told him that boys and girls couldn't be friends because boys always want to marry girls. ------> THIS WISDOM FROM A 6 YEAR OLD. I was in tears laughing with the lady next to me. These kids were an absolute riot.

So then I finally got to the Upper East Side after a quick bus ride and three stops downtown on the 6 train, it was time for The Party. I was actually the first person from Fault Line who had arrived, so I got to spend some bonding time with Sally, the housekeeper and resident bad-ass of this penthouse. This lady had clearly been working in this home for a long time, because she was very strict and knew about everything - even more than the lady who lived there. It was pretty awesome to interact with her. She taught me how to cut a pineapple and how to know if it's ripe or not before you buy it at the store. After a few hours of prep, I was in charge of serving the gourmet hot-dogs who our chef, Jason, had whipped up. They were a hit! Me and the other servers had a great time weaving in and out of the fancy people, in the fancy apartment, keeping their wine glasses full and smiles on their faces. The whole Fault Line team had a great time. It was wonderful. I also got to see my first roof-top view of the city from our host's patio. It was pretty cool and just like in the movies. You can see more photos from The Party here on Fault Line's facebook page.

Once the party was over, a bunch of us went out to celebrate all of our hard work. This was probably the best time I've had out since being in New York. I got to spend some more time with the Fault Line team outside of work which is always fun. I learned a lot about bars in New York City and also a lot about the best rock albums of the early nineties from my co-workers. When we all finally cabbed it home around 1:30, I was beat beat beat! *Side note - being hungover in New York city is super painful: you can hear colors and lights and see sounds. *Monkey covering face emoji*
Rehearsal has been pretty busy this week. We're starting to work over the newest Act II, so we've been bouncing back and forth between table work, blocking, line notes, and preparing for tech. It's been pretty crazy. Tomorrow is also our first design run for the production staff and I will also be sitting in on my first production meeting (geeking out over here)! What's more exciting is that after rehearsal, Mikey, the cast, and myself will be road-tripping it to the Berkshires for the night for a retreat type of deal! I'm so excited! I really am mostly looking forward to getting to know the cast a little bit better, since I don't get to spend a lot of time with them outside of rehearsal. That being said, I will be sure to get a post up on Friday when we get back so I don't get too far behind again!
A HUGE shoutout to my very good friend, Emilie Ronald who heard my pleas and sent me an awesome post card all the way from LONDON, ENGLAND for my wall! I'm super excited to have some mail and I miss you so much!
I have a few quotes of the day saved up from this week, so enjoy! Also, check out this rehearsal update from our wonderful Fault Line Communications team! Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!
Quote of the day: You have no cause for anything but gratitude and joy." - Buddha
Quote of the day (It's from our boy, Khalil again!) : "Love has no desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give you thanks for another day of loving." - Khalil Gibran
